Miso Anime Club is a community film group specializing in Japanese animation, often simply shortened to “anime”.
Our shows are free of charge and open to the general public (There is also the option of obtaining a membership with the club to earn extra privileges such as attending member events and voting on the shows to be seen at the club, as well as discounts and access to an extensive collection of anime) and features a full range of genres including comedy, adventure, drama, and horror. We meet bi-weekly in the attic loft of Carpe Diem on Old Shell road. All of our anime is presented in the original Japanese language with English subtitles to preserve the original feeling and sound of the shows.
Miso Anime Club has been a staple for anime enthusiasts of the Gulf Coast since November 2003. Formally hosted at the campus of the University of South Alabama, we have changed venues since our prelaunch, and are now proud to call Carpe Diem Coffee House the new home of Mobile, Alabama’s premier anime club! The Carpe Diem staff has graciously welcomed us and is willing to do everything humanly possible to help make us feel right at home and accommodate our needs, even providing us with a complimentary pot of coffee at each meeting! The convenience of their cafe directly below our meeting offers refreshments such as coffee, tea, baked goods, sandwiches, and salads. This coupled with the comfortable environment upstairs makes for an intimate and relaxing atmosphere in which to share and enjoy the anime shows and our passion for it with friends.
Besides our regular shows, Miso Anime Club also holds special member events such as sushi night, pizza night, Shoujo|Shounen nights, and we are planning future special events including an anime picnic in the park at Langan Park pavilion. We regularly make convention trips as a group, work on cosplay costume projects together, and do everything we can to make Miso a fun and friendly anime community. Founded six years ago, the club has had national acclaim, even being featured in New Type magazine and drawing members who would drive from Florida and Mississippi. We are once again showing anime and looking forward to expanding our family who share our love of anime, and hope to see you there with us!
